Job Title: Junior Research Fellow
Job Description: Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF), to work in the ICMR- Ad hoc project at Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangalore. The title of the project is “Nano-formulation of lutein to improve bioavailability in the prevention of Age-Related Macular Degeneration.” A candidate with expertise on bioavailability studies, nano-formulation, analytical chemistry and animal handling will be preferred. The Period of the project is 3 years.

Location: Mangalore
Eligibility: Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology / Food Science and Nutrition / Biosciences / Biotechnology / Biochemistry or equivalent degrees) with at least 60% marks.
Salary Range: Rs. 31,000/- per month +HRA

This Center is presently headed by Dr. (Mrs) Indrani Karunasagar, who is an internationally renowned scientist in the area of biomedical education and research. She comes to NUCSER with her vast experience in developing and commercializing biotechnologies in the area of diagnostics and health management. She is a recipient of several national and international awards including Biotechnology Product and Process Development Award and Life Time Achievement Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award for research excellence from Indian Council of Agricultural Research and UNESCO Biotechnology Award. She has been nominated by UNESCO as Director of Microbial Resources Center (MIRCEN) in Marine Biotechnology, which will now be based in NUCSER. Another feather in her cap is her nomination as the only Indian member of the International Jury for UNESCO Life Science Prize for research and social relevance. Dr. (Mrs) Indrani Karunasagar has trained over 60 postgraduate and doctoral students, who are now occupying prestigious faculty and industry positions in India and abroad. The broad exposure the students got in her laboratory is evident from the fact that the alumni are established in areas such as human genetics, infectious diseases, immunology, cancer research, drug development, and other biotechnological areas. She would be leading a group of highly competent faculty with international experience and exposure and presently, NUCSER would offer bachelors and Master degree courses in biomedical sciences and carry out research in frontier areas such as cancer biology, stem cell biology, public health including food safety, biotechnology, and bioinformatics, microbiology, and biochemistry. NUCSER is developing a state of the art laboratory and already, a Stem Cell Center has started functioning. NUCSER is coordinating research in Nitte University and building multidisciplinary teams of researchers involving faculty from Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical, and Engineering Institutes under the management of Nitte Education Trust. NUCSER is developing international collaborations and would have visiting faculty from Australia, United States and several European countries with whom she has collaborated for over two decades. And who are keen to continue the cooperation with her. Undergraduate and postgraduate students admitted to NUCSER would have the opportunity to work in well-equipped modern laboratories and get practical training that would prepare them to take up a career in any area of biomedical sciences and technologies. Under her leadership and track record in research and teaching, the courses and areas of specialized and interdisciplinary research in Biomedical Sciences & Marine Biotechnology and related areas is bound to achieve international acceptance.
