During headaches, the blood vessels in the head generally tend to enlarge but caffeine has got vasoconstrictive properties which help in narrowing the blood vessels and restricting the flow of blood thus helping in aiding headaches and migraine pains. Acute treatments of migraine are also possible with a limited dosage of caffeine. Many of the migraine patients have reported that a strong cup of coffee reduces the attack of migraine pains. Although limited consumption of caffeine is recommended as it might lead to dependency on caffeine.
Peppermint: It is actually a muscle relaxant and a pain reliever thus helps in treating tension headaches and migraine pains. Peppermint oil can be applied during headaches as the menthol from the peppermint oil will help in increasing the blood flow and provides a cooling sensation to ease the pain. Similarly drinking peppermint tea can help in reducing chronic headaches. Peppermint has antibacterial, antiviral as well as anti-inflammatory properties which can help in fighting sinuses and reducing its symptoms.
Essential oils: Although peppermint oil is the widely used essential oil for aiding headaches but besides that, there are various other types of oils that might be considered as remedies for headaches.
Rosemary oil has painkilling as well as anti-inflammatory properties which makes it a very efficient pain reliever. Signs of usage of rosemary oil as a folk medicine for pain relief, blood circulation, and stress reduction can be dated back to hundreds of years.
